The ins and outs of cashmere fiber:
- Known to be the fiber of kings
- Feels much softer to the touch than wool
- Fleece consists of very fine, crimpy down and long, coarse, straight guard hairs
- Fiber must be separated using a dehairer process, eliminating guard hairs
- A yield of at least 30% down is desirable
- Cashmere down growth begins around the longest day of the year and stops around the shortest day
- The crimp is the style and a tightly crimped down is the most desirable
- The diameter of the fiber must be under 19 microns in order to be labeled cashmere
- There are many colors and combinations of colors
