The ins and outs of cashmere fiber:

  • Known to be the fiber of kings
  • Feels much softer to the touch than wool
  • Fleece consists of very fine, crimpy down and long, coarse, straight guard hairs
  • Fiber must be separated using a dehairer process, eliminating guard hairs
  • A yield of at least 30% down is desirable
  • Cashmere down growth begins around the longest day of the year and stops around the shortest day
  • The crimp is the style and a tightly crimped down is the most desirable
  • The diameter of the fiber must be under 19 microns in order to be labeled cashmere
  • There are many colors and combinations of colors
